Chapman in the news; In today’s day and age much is measured by the mega-pixel and how much native resolution your TV screen can emulate. While the human eye can process a whopping 576 mega-pixel, its kind of misleading as to what we can really see. The great marketing machine employs to our senses that more, must mean better. Many of us certainly remember the days when our screens were in black and white, both on TV and even in the early days of the PC. Those days are often referred to by most as “The Good Old Days”. Fishing in Black & White returns us to our roots, when marketing had to not only appeal to our vision, but, our ability to read the ad. Our dreams may be in color, but our thoughts are in black and white.
Many of us read blogs, and high definition color magazines and we fall back on such color periodicals for our research. What about the days before color print? There was still a need to market, and to advertise, and newspapers were a hug part of that medium by which we transferred information and news to each other. There wasn’t social media per say it was word of mouth or newsprint if you wanted to advertise. Newsprint was even used for a less business type need and even more of the gossip or the town news. One must also realize Theresa, NY was not a thriving metropolitan area for business, it was and is a salt of the earth type of town for WD Chapman and his lures.
Chapman in the news will give you an idea of, A, just how old WD Chapman antique lures are, and B, just how things and information got passed. There will be articles as well as ads. These are valuable tools for identification of antique fishing lures, dating things. From fishing lure ads, to employees, to business dealings to gold old fashion gossip the old news was truly akin to todays social media like Facebook, Google, Pinterest if you take a step back and look at it, it truly is just differing technologies. One thing of note these are not catalog ad’s from Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett or other wholesalers, these are Chapman inserted news ads from Newspapers and are much harder to find in my opinion than the catalog ads we see.
